We’ve created three robots that dance in response to MIDI signals. To give the robots the movements we wanted there are 49 motors in each robot and each robot has 112 different dance moves.

They don’t have legs because they are designed to be on a stage with musicians, and we don’t want them moving around bumping into things. They are supported by microphone stands.

Each robot has five Arduinos to control the motors, plus a few others to control some lighting effects and the human detection system, which we included for safety reasons.

One thing we learned was that you don’t need all the motors and control systems ready before you start to create a robot. You can create a head, joints and limbs and add control features later as funds allow. As we create more videos to show our ideas we’ll share them to this site.
